ThreatFire; although it has a platinum version; you don’t need it. The free suite will give you real-time and scan protection just fine. Http://www.ThreatFire.com give it a shot.

They are all free and offer good real-time protection.
for blocking, you require realtime protection (adaware free doesnt give u real time free.. adwatch costs $$$ )
hows about ditching that shitty loose internet explorer, grab yourself a copy of firefox … install it… install the following addons…. noscript / adblock / noflash… that will result in about a 95% malware reduction.
I use Spybot SD.
Super anti spyware is a great one. I use it all the time. The cost but you can make a donation if you like. It protects and scans, and removes. Try it , it is great.

In addition to adaware, there is also spybot search and deystroy.
Spybot search and destroy is one of the best. I have used it for years with no probs, I would also reccomend getting a sturdy firewall for added peace of mind, they are annoying for the first week or so while they are "learning" but I wouldn’t be without one.
